The entire region of Navotas was once part of Malabon until it gained full independence as a distinct municipality on January 16, 1906 thru the Philippine Commission Act No. 142. From then on, Navotas City celebrates its foundation day every 16th of January and was proclaimed as a full pledged city and remain part ot Metro Manila on June 24, 2007 together with 15 other cities and 1 municipality.
